Remediation of an agricultural area

Contamination by lead from an old clay pigeon shooting range
Remediation of an agricultural area

Challenge:

  • Lead from bullets fired at an old clay pigeon shooting range has ended up in the soil of an agricultural area. The fragmentation of the pellets during shooting and the plowing of the soil has caused the contamination to spread widely across the site.

Solutions:

  • Selective excavation of the soil to a depth of 0.3 m or 0.8 m
  • Physicochemical treatment of the soil to remove lead from the soil
  • Replenishment of soil suitable for agriculture
