Challenge:
The remediation to be carried out includes 5 source areas (cores), from which 5 pollution plumes have emerged, extending up to approximately 500 m.
The contamination has also spread vertically down to the Boom clays, located at a depth of about 30 to 35 m.
The area includes a dozen small businesses, a nature reserve, and a residential area, making the project complex.
Solutions:
Selective excavations were carried out in the source areas, followed by injection of chemical oxidant (Fenton's reagent) and/or a carbon source (glycerin) depending on the concentrations encountered in the groundwater.
Biological barriers were placed in the plume areas where successive injection phases of carbon sources will take place (glycerin).
The remediation also includes the monitoring and protection of a drainage system along the railway, hydraulic downstream of the site.
