Japanese knotweed (Utrecht)

Governments and companies have asked whether there is a solution for soil contaminated with Japanese knotweed and similar plants.

Challenge :

  •  Japanese knotweed is a virtually ineradicable weed that leads to many problems in natural areas (overgrowth), road verges (sightlines, road foundations), dikes (erosion slope), and urban areas (foundations of buildings, cables & pipes).
  • Japanese knotweed can spread as a result of human activity, such as mowing and excavation.

Solutions :

  • In Utrecht, a processing method has been developed to destroy this plant.
At this site, soil with Japanese knotweed is handled with various techniques.
    Capacity of 3.000 - 4.000 tons.
